IELTS Academic is an exam to demonstrate one's English proficiency in four key areas - Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. It is a common knowledge that IELTS Academic is required for a Canada Study Permit under Student-Direct Stream. But most don't know that there are certain professions that require you to take IELTS Academic exam as well.
Studying in Canada
To study in Canada, you must have at least 6.0 bands in each of the four modules. [NOTE: After August 10, 2023, you would only need an overall 6.0 bands in IELTS for SDS Route]
The score, however, only shows 1 side of the coin - getting the SDS visa. You still need better scores for getting admissions in universities and colleges that are good for your career. In general, a student going after 12th for either Bachelor's or a Diploma should target a score of 7.0 to be on the safer end of admission process with most of the Canadian institutes while a score of 7.5 for the students going after Bachelor's degree.
Working in Canada
There are certain designations for which IELTS Academic is a required exam. If you work at these designations or are looking for a job for any of these profiles, you must take the IELTS Academic exam and get a score of 7.0 or more in each module. These professions are -
